Dailyn Martinez and Robert Brohman started Shumdesalsa in 2016 with the goal of spreading Cuban Casino (salsa) and Afro Cuban rhythms. Born in Güines, Cuba, Dailyn graduated from the National School of Art and Variety, renowned for developing Cuban artistic talent. Later she danced for the internationally acclaimed Havana Nights performance group.

Their mission is to promote Colombian dance styles in Canada by connecting, interacting, and inspiring people interested in learning and enjoying new Latin dance rhythms. The dance styles the academy teaches and performs are Salsa calena, salsa choke, and champeta. The academy currently offers online and in-person classes in Spanish with Latin-American instructors for all people interested in learning about Colombian culture and its expressions.
